Bedroom Decoration for a Little Girl's Room
Pretty colors and beautiful textures add up to a sumptuous bedroom for your little princess.
All little girls have an affinity with pretty colors and, to provide a bedroom to enchant your little girl, consider flowers and fairies, butterflies and endearing little animals: from bunny and bambi to teddy bears and polar bears.
Penguins on Ice
When decorating a little girl's bedroom, follow a 'Happy Feet' theme and add penguins and ice flows and lots of snowflakes or go for a woodland scene with a gnarled oak and a few hedgehogs, a badger or two and a coterie of butterflies. All of these can be stencilled onto plainly painted walls in an exquisite frieze: you might even be lucky enough to find wallpaper already printed with exactly the scenes you had in mind.
Seashells and Seashore
What about a seashore theme when you consider ideas for decorating a little girl's bedroom? If you live near a beach you could design an ocean theme, with blues in different hues and a sandy shade for the floor. Consider the various textures found on the seashore: think of pebbles, or waves and seaweed.
Windows can be framed with wide ribbons of green-colored voile curtaining to represent the seaweed fronds, with pebbles glued to the base of a table lamp and soft green walls, with bedding in a turquoise blue. Keeping the theme of sand for the floor, a neutral carpet in a hardwearing, heavy domestic weave would be ideal for a child's bedroom floor.
Look in a bathroom shop for an attractive mat that features seashells or a dolphin, or a school of fish on it just to finish off the seashore theme.
Heavenly Stars
Then, of course, you can always decorate a little girl's bedroom with stars: there is a huge array of bedding which feature stars - big stars, little stars, traditional stars and even cartoon stars. Both girls and boys will be entranced by a starlight bedroom.
You can stencil stars on the walls or on the ceilings, or cut out a sponge in the shape of a star and use that to sponge stars onto the walls. Many stores feature special themes for children's rooms nowadays and you can always take advantage of the wide range of starlight wallpapers and borders.
One of the newer innovations is the hologram patterns which can be peeled off their backing and gently brushed onto the walls: each time they catch the light, they glow. Finish the theme with a duvet cover liberally spread with stars and, perhaps, a star-shaped rug to finish of the effect.
Moonlight and Milky Way
Well, we've done stars so why not moonlight as well - either individually, or both together? You could even include the planets and send your child to sleep amongst the Milky Way.
Try midnight blue for the ceiling, covered with some of the fluorescent star and moon shapes you can buy: these are just peel-off and stick onto whichever surface you want to place them and they are very effective. Paint a chest of drawers white and stencil on star shapes in the shape of a rainbow, together with moons and planets, perhaps even a small rocket ship hurtling into space.
There is so much scope for your child's imagination here they will be delighted to spend time in their room.
Fairy Rings and Pixies Too
Perhaps you little girl is more likely to be entranced with the mysterious world of fairies and elves, pixies and gnomes, or perhaps she would like the idea of a bedroom full of angels?
Many little girls love fairies and angels - in fact, there are many big girls who love them as well. For angels, you could paint puffy clouds and create an exciting mix of blues, pinks, lavenders and other shades of mauve, with a neutral carpet and a deep fluffy white rug.
A canopy bed would look lovely when you have finished decorating your little girl's bedroom, with billowy curtains in soft white voile. For a fairy theme, you could stencil red toadstools and pretty butterflies, with fairies hovering in the air and, perhaps, a fairy blowing a dandelion clock into the wind.
Try some of the new silvery paints which dry with a glittery finish and create a light airy look with floating voile curtains which have been embroidered with sprigs of flowers scattered throughout.
Retro Chic
Some little girls prefer the bright bold colors of hot orange, bright greens and rich pinks. For bedrooms like this you can really go to town. Paint the walls a plain shade and then stencil on flowers in a geometric, retro style.
The effect can be really overpowering and a larger room would do far more justice to this design, but the impact, regardless of the room size will be colossal. Staying with the flower power theme, you could focus less on the stylized and more on the pastoral, with a mural featuring hills and the sun rising, just peeking above the hills.
This would look lovely with yellow gingham accessories, providing a bright and clean look to thrill any little girl.
Gingerbread Cottage
Perhaps your little girl would enjoy a Hansel and Gretel house. This gives you plenty of scope when decorating a little girl's bedroom in a cottage style, incorporating old furniture that may have been passed down from previous uses.
Provide lots of chintzes and dried flowers, some pot pourri on the window sill and a nice deep, comfy armchair to curl up in. This room would be ideal decorated in pastel shades of lilac, pinks and sky blue to offset the darkness of old furniture.
With a hardwearing cord carpet on the floor in a light, sandy color and some colorful bedding in ginghams and stripes and your little girl would be delighted with her cottage-style bedroom.
Flotilla of Butterflies
Cats and dogs, bunnies, bees, butterflies and dragonflies: they all make wonderful ideas for decorating your little girl's bedroom. color schemes are easy - you simply ask you daughter what her favorite color is and then apply liberally to all the walls, toning in different hues when you add the accessories.
Decorating doesn't have to be difficult - if your daughter doesn't ask for a specific theme, go for the straightforward color scheme, through in a load of bean bags and floor cushions and leave her to enjoy arranging her own things as she pleases.
