Boy's Bedroom Sports Themes
For some reason, decorating a little boy's room isn't considered as 'fun' as decorating a little girls one. Perhaps it is because there are not as many 'standard' rooms for boys as there are for girls.
Decorators are really missing the boat here. Little boys rooms can be fun to decorate and easy too by choosing one of the many popular sports and creating a specialized room around that theme.
General Sport Decorating Tips
When decorating with a boys bedroom sports theme, keep a few things in mind...
- First, it is not necessary to rely on team merchandising to decorate a room. While most teams have a wide range of items you can use in decorating, everything from sheets to wall borders, they are often expensive. Instead of spending your money on them, use creativity to create your sport space.
- Second, you do not have to rely on the typical blue walls when using a sports theme. Use your favorite team's colors or a complimentary one to paint the walls. You can add color accents throughout based on your team.
- Third, don't forget about functionality. When decorating any room, but especially a child's room, storage and functionality should always be kept in mind.
Pick your Theme
When using sports to decorate your little boy's room, the first step is to pick your boys bedroom sports theme. There are two main choices available.
First, you can decorate the room based on a particular sport. Football, hockey, soccer and race car driving are all popular choices. Deciding to use a sport as a theme will allow for more options during the decorating process.
Conversely, you can choose one team as the basis for your sports themed room. Whatever team your little guy, or his dad, likes, use their colors, logo's and other items to specialize the room. Making this choice is the first step towards creating a boys bedroom sports themed room.
Painting
Have a good canvas to work on is the next step, so choose your color's wisely. Use your favorite team's colors or a complimentary one to paint the walls. If you have decided to base your room on an over all sport like soccer, choose a light but warm shade.
Remember, when creating a room with a boys bedroom sports theme, you will be bringing in lots of decorating elements, so an overwhelming or loud color choice may be too much.
Keep it simple and light for the base color. You will have plenty of places to work color in later. Make sure to use quality paint and spend the time to do a good job painting the room to ensure a long lasting room.
Baseball Themed Room
Choose your favorite baseball team and use their color and logo to decorate your child's room. If you prefer a general baseball theme, consider painting oversized baseballs and paints on the walls.
These somewhat stylized elements are an easy focal point and art project for the room when creating a room with a boys bedroom sports theme. If you are worried about your painting skills, create a stencil out of a large piece of cardboard.
For an interesting coat rack, make one using baseball bat handles as hooks. Use the stitching reminiscent of the baseball bat to trim curtains or bedding. Another idea is using a diamond shaped rug and places a baseball diamond at your child's feet.
Football Themed Room
Football is all about taking it down the field, so consider using the field as your major decorating element when creating a room with a boys bedroom sports theme. Paint your walls to remind people of yard markers, or use a football field rug to tie it all together.
The stitching on footballs is distinctive too, so use it throughout the room. If your child has a favorite team, consider creating an oversized logo on the wall as a focal point.
If they don't, why not try a stenciled wall border of footballs around the room's perimeter? Hand a pair of cleats on the wall, or use helmets as book ends for added flair in your football themed room.
Race Car Themed Room
If your boy has a favorite driver, using his number and sponsor is a must throughout the room. If he doesn't, remember the track is the typical race car element. Use it throughout the room.
Wall borders, rugs, and art can all be based on the track. Tires, cars and trophy's are all elements that can be used when pulling together a room with a boys bedroom sports theme.
A cute idea is to use shelving around the room's perimeter to hold race car models. Not only will this add to the boys bedroom sports theme, building models can become a life long hobby for your child.
That Special Touch
Whatever sport you pick, consider finding that one special thing to use as a focal point. An autographed bat or helmet, a favorite players jersey or a signed photograph are excellent examples.
While these special items can be pricey, they will really make the room sing. Spend a little extra money getting something special, the look on your child's face will make it worth it when creating a room with a boys bedroom sports theme.
